The G-Cloud, which launched in 2012, essentially provides an online Digital Marketplace where public organisations can find different services offered by a large amount of suppliers that are part of the G-Cloud Framework Agreement. The G-Cloud has definitely had an impact on the way the UK public sector buys commodity IT services and the government has been commended on the strides it has taken to refine the procurement and certification process through the G-Cloud.

Swedish rail operator upgrades mobile solution with MobiCloud

  • TKAB (Tagkompaniet) is a Swedish rail operator that has been using mobile devices since 2005. Next generation devices are an opportunity to improve its operational efficiency but TBAK faced a number of challenges in deploying the devices across its workforce.
  • MobiCloud enabled TKAB to use the cloud and build cross-platform and context capabilities, so it can now take full advantage of smartphones to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Cabinet-level Agency Health and Human Services Joins Other Federal Departments to Improve Collaboration and Productivity with Cloud Platform

The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is moving its email application and collaboration services to the solution that is hosted in a Government Community Cloud, it was announced on the 20th of November.

Cloud for Europe Launches Tender for Public Sector Cloud Innovation

The Cloud for Europe project (FP7) announces the publication of a tender for the joint pre-commercial procurement (PCP) of research and development on cloud computing services. The purpose of the tender is to research and demonstrate solutions to overcome obstacles for the adoption of cloud computing by the public sector.

The Cloud for Europe PCP is inviting suppliers to bid for any or all of three services (lots), each of which provides a framework agreement for the realisation of research and development services.

The lots are:

Germany's Largest Port Adopts Cloud Services, Reduces Administration by 75%

Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) is in charge of managing the largest port in Germany, and second largest in Europe. HPA wanted to take advantage of new devices and form factors to boost employee mobility and remove issues that could impede the effectiveness of employees working outside of the office. HPA chose to upgrade to cloud services to provide employees the ability to be productive on virtually any device from anywhere in the port.
